Art Psychotherapy

Andrea Spink

I am an Art Psychotherapist and have been practicing in Edinburgh and the Lothians since 2005.  I work with individuals and groups in both short and long-term therapy.

Art psychotherapy, like counselling, is well evidenced to improve mental, emotional and physical health.  Art psychotherapy is a recognised, regulated, psychological therapy which can bring shape to thoughts and feelings when words can’t be found.  The art materials can help you connect to feelings and offer a way into the therapy work.

I provide a supportive, confidential and accepting space for you to explore art making safely and talk about whatever is concerning you.  I can help you discover and develop a deeper awareness of yourself and enjoy more satisfying and authentic relationships in the present.

I have experience of working with many mental health issues including depression, anxiety and panic attacks, personality disorders and dissociation.  I also have extensive experience working with people who have experienced early trauma, neglect or a one-off trauma.  Bereavement and loss, life changes and physical illness can all leave you feeling depleted and stuck, I have experience in helping people move through these debilitating periods in life.

Art psychotherapy can be a vehicle for you to have a better understanding of why you do the things you do, and help you make the changes in your thinking, feelings and behavior that you are looking for.  My aim is to help you move towards a more meaningful life and a sense of wholeness and wellbeing.

You don’t have to be good at art or have ever used art materials at all, but feeling open and willing to engage in the art making process will enable you to make the most out of your sessions.
